Kpop Dance Tutorial: B.A.P - No Mercy

Yesterday, I taught a kpop dance class at the University of Toronto in association with the Korea Club! The dance is B.A.P - No Mercy, and the tutorial is mirrored and step-by-step.

To all the girls who came to class: thank you for being such great students! You guys were a lot of fun to teach and were nice enough to let me film you :D.

Notes: I'm bending my knees too much during the lyrics "no mercy." It's more of a pelvis tilt than a knee bend. You can watch the original music video here (which is not mirrored). In the tutorial, I'm teaching the choreography from 1:12 - 2:36 in the music video.

Pop! Goes The World!

Pop! Goes The World! is "Canada's #1 Kpop fanbase, event promoters, and DJs." Encultura goes behind the scenes and interviews the organizers, performers, and partygoers who converge during Pop!'s monthly dance parties at the Annex WreckRoom in Toronto.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the interviews and made the video so much fun to film!

Upcoming Videos

Lots of exciting things happening here at Encultura! I've been busy filming and editing videos, and have a number of interviews lined up for February and March.

One of the upcoming videos will be a profile of Pop! Goes The World, "Canada's #1 kpop fanbase, event promoters, and DJs." I took footage at their Cosplayers Ball this past Saturday, and got exclusive interviews with the organizers, Gerald and Audrey, as well as the performers, Brian Seo and FrolicLassie. I will be filming again on March 1 at Pop's 1-year anniversary party. The finished video will be uploaded on YouTube around March 4 or 5.

In late February, I'll be interviewing three Chinese international students about their experiences in Canada. Big thanks to Bob Zhang at CUAUT who set this one up for me!

In March, I'll be profiling Meanwhile in China, which "brings you the very best of news from Greater China, be it strange, amusing, touching, sad, or informative." You may recognize Victoria Sung, co-founder of Meanwhile in China, who was in the video on how young newcomers celebrate Chinese New Year.

Last but not least, there will be videos involving food and kpop dancing (two of my favourite things :)

Stay tuned!

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is traditionally a time to get together with family and friends to eat, exchange gifts, and celebrate the holiday. But how do young newcomers in Toronto celebrate Chinese New Year, since they are away from home and in a different country?
